Recommended Lesson Durations
The following weekly lesson durations are the minimum required to fully cover all aspects of the syllabus in a timely manner. Longer lessons may be requested by the student or teacher, according to individual need.
Piano
The following piano lesson durations assume that students will be studying piano and theory/musicianship, and that the theory/musicianship standard will be one or two grades lower than the piano standard. If the Theory/Musicianship standard is higher than the piano standard, lesson length will need to be negotiated.
For beginners younger than seven years, lesson duration is to be negotiated.
| Beginners to Grade One (AMEB) (with Theory up to Grade One) (Beginners aged 7 and up) | 30 minutes minimum, 45 minutes preferred. |
| Grades Two to Three (with Theory up to Grade One) | 45 minute private lesson |
| Grades Four to Six (with Theory/Mus up to Gr Three) | 60 minute private lesson |
| Grade Six (With Theory/Mus Gr Four or higher), Grades Seven and above | 60 minute private piano lesson, plus additional time for Theory/Mus. |
Piano For Leisure
| Beginners to Grade Three (with Theory up to Grade One) (Beginners aged 7 and up) | 30 minutes minimum, 45 minutes preferred. |
| Grades Three to Four (with Theory up to Grade Two) | 45 minute private lesson |
| Grades Five and Six Leisure (with Theory/Mus up to Grade Three) | 60 minute private lesson |
| Grade Six (With Theory/Mus Gr Four or higher), Grades Seven and above | 60 minute private piano lesson, plus additional time for Theory/Mus. |
Theory/Musicianship/Exam Preparation (without piano lessons)
Minimum lesson times are listed in the table. Longer lesson times will allow for more rapid completion of the material. Group lessons available upon request (subject to timetable availability).

Mentoring of Teachers
